Mahindra Thar 2025 Facelift: Keeping the Legend Fresh

The Mahindra Thar, India’s beloved lifestyle off-roader, is set to get a facelift in 2025 that promises to modernize its appeal without losing its rugged DNA. After its current generation has been in the market since 2020, Mahindra is updating the Thar 3-door with design tweaks, richer interiors, and technology upgrades, aiming to maintain its position as a top choice for adventure-seekers who also want comfort and style. Spotted testing multiple times, the facelifted Thar shows many visual cues borrowed from the Thar Roxx, elevating its road presence while preserving its unmistakable silhouette.

On the outside, the 2025 Thar facelift is expected to feature a revised grille (larger, with double-stacked slots similar to the Thar Roxx), reshaped bumpers, new LED projector headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, and refreshed tail lamps. Alloy wheel designs are also updated, especially for higher trims, to enhance the look. Despite these modern touches, the Thar sticks to its rugged charm: high ground clearance, muscular fenders, and an attitude that still screams

Inside, the Thar facelift brings some of the biggest changes. A freestanding 10.25-inch infotainment display is expected, paired with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The instrument cluster also moves toward a fully digital setup in many variants, replacing older analog/digital meters.  Other additions likely include wireless charging, ventilated front seats, a new steering wheel borrowed from the Roxx, a shift of power window switches to door panels (instead of center console), and possibly automatic climate control in higher trims. These features aim to make the Thar better suited for everyday usability without diluting its adventure-ready charm.

Mechanically, Mahindra appears to be sticking with the proven engines that current Thar owners already trust. The facelifted Thar will continue to offer the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, the 2.2-litre diesel (mHawk), and the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (mStallion) engines.  Transmission options remain a 6-speed manual across the board, with the petrol and larger engine diesels also getting a 6-speed automatic in select trims. Both RWD (rear-wheel drive) and 4WD (four-wheel drive) configurations will continue to be offered, preserving the off-road readiness the Thar is known for. An important mechanical update is the switch from hydraulic to electric power steering (borrowed from the Thar Roxx), which should provide lighter, more precise steering, especially in urban traffic.

The Thar facelift 2025 is more than just fresh styling—it’s about meeting growing expectations. Buyers today want SUVs that can handle both rugged terrain and urban commutes, with comfort and tech to match. Mahindra’s updates seem designed to do just that. On pricing, the facelift is expected to command a slight premium over current models, estimated in the range of ₹12-18 lakh (ex-showroom) for different trims and configurations.  With bookings likely opening around its launch (rumours point to around September-October 2025) and delivery soon after, the updated Thar should show up in showrooms just in time for buyers looking to pick rugged yet feature-rich SUVs.

In summary, the 2025 Mahindra Thar facelift aims to refresh what already works—rugged design, off-road ability, loyal customer base—while adding enough modern tech, comfort, and styling to remain competitive. For those who love the Thar’s spirit but have been waiting for high-tech touches and better creature comforts, this upgrade promises to deliver without compromising the rough-and-tumble DNA.
